Penang is number 8 in top 10
Penang is number 8 in the “10 Islands to Explore Before You Die”. The Article by Gary McKechnie, “10 Islands to Explore Before You Die” puts Penang on number 8 of the list of must visit island in this lifetime.
According to Gary, Penang is the top destination in Malaysia for Food, Culture and Heritage.
For food, there was mention of Lor Bak (deep fried marinated minced pork), Lok Lok (skewered seafood, meats and vegetables) and Ikan Bakar (grilled or barbecued fish marinated in spices and coconut milk, wrapped inside banana leaves and grilled over hot coals).
There is no short of culture either with the fusion of Malay, Chinese, India and European cultures intertwined to form the Malaysian culture with many festivals celebrated by all.
On heritage, Penang and Georgetown were singled out, having received the recognition by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site with its local architecture influenced by the early Chinese, the Indians, the Malays and the British colonialist in the past that coexisted until today.
To get a glimpse of what Penang has to offer, the State produced a video clip looking at some of the festivals and cultural celebrations in Penang.
The video included interviews and viewpoints from visitors to the Island, and no surprise there, food, the weather, beaches, shopping, heritage and culture top the favourites list.
