Penang is One of 10 Best Islands
Penang is rated as one of the 10 best Malaysian islands to visit according to an article by Simon Ostheimer on CNN GO.
Among other islands listed are:
- Perhentian
- Tioman
- Langkawi
- Penang
- Labuan
- Layang Layang
- Sipadan
- Redang
- Rawa
- Pangkor
It is not surprising that Penang was highlighted on the list for it’s heritage and food.
There is certainly plenty of history behind the founding of Penang and its status alongside Singapore and Melaka as the Straits Settlements, administrative outposts during the British colonial days.
However, today’s Penang is more than just a holiday destination. The locals from various ethnicities and backgrounds are proud of its heritage and continue to celebrate cultural and religious festivals together.
Georgetown, which is the heart of the Island was granted World Heritage City status by UNESCO in 2008. It continues to thrive with ever more preservation and restoration activities in the designated core area.
Foodies will not be let down either. The abundance of stalls, hawker centers, coffee shops, restaurants and night markets mean that one can sample local delicacies (post of food) anywhere and at any time of the day.
In fact, we too have a whole section devoted to the amazing food in Penang
