Ramadan Bazaar

There is nothing like joining the locals for a spot of shopping and food especially in celebration of a religious festival.
The universal nature of religious celebrations in Penang meant you will be welcomed with open arms.
During the Muslim Fasting Month (or Ramadan) you will have plenty of opportunity to join in the celebration as it carries on for an entire month.
Join the Ramadan Bazaar in the evening where there is plenty of food, local delicacies, festive cookies and cakes on offer. There will also be clothing, religious items and other essentials.
The stalls will operate from late afternoon into the evening allowing patrons to shop and go for food when it is time to break fast. The time to break fast is usually announced during the day.
The pinnacle of the month long festival is Hari Raya, also a national holiday in Malaysia where visiting relatives and friends is customary with the giving of green packet containing money.
Nuzul Al-Quran
Date: 21 May 2019 – 22 May 2019
Usually a quiet religious celebration to mark the 17th day of the holy Ramadan month, Nuzul Al-Quran is celebrated to commemorate the day Prophet Muhammad SAW first received the Scriptures from Heaven. A public holiday is observed in most states in Malaysia.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri
Dates: 5 June 2019 – 6 June 2019
Hari Raya Aidilfitri is celebrated by the Muslims in Malaysia to mark the beginning of the month of Syawal.
Malay and Muslim families will play host to other muslim and non-muslim friends by having open houses.
Guest to open houses will be treated to biscuits, cakes (kuih raya) and a variety of traditional Malay cuisines.
It is also a time where some families in the cities will make a trip back to their hometown or Kampung to see their elders.
They will be in their best traditional Malay outfit, children and elders will be given money in green paper packets also known as “duit raya”.
Popular cuisines served during Hari Raya are Lemang and Beef Rending Curry.
